So what's the big deal about sin?

The Bible tells us that what we deserve as a result of our sin is death. Like this verse says - it's our 'wages' - or put another way what we all have coming to us.

It's the natural consequence. Just as when you ignore a 'No Entry' sign, or other rules of the road that are there for your safety. Sooner or later you'll get what's coming to you!

Now, 'death' in the Bible means two things:

(a) First, it means death in the very literal since. Everybody sins, so everybody's going to die. Tragic, but undeniably true.

(b) Second, death also means 'separation'. When we sin, we separate ourselves from the God who made us and loves us. This ties back directly to our 'falling short'. After all, if God is totally perfect, totally 'holy', then He can't possibly have us anywhere near Him in the state we are.

Just imagine the reaction of a mother dressed in her spotless white party dress, shrinking back from her child who has just come in from the garden... with muddy hands. She loves him dearly, and wants to hug him - but until he gets himself clean there's no way that can happen without letting herself get dirty too. And she's not going to allow that! Ok, so it's a pretty lame comparison, but you get the idea.

So, we've had it then, right?
Well, actually no. There's some great news coming!
