The gift of God is eternal life

Amazing Grace!

We have looked already at this verse. Romans 6:23 starts "The wages of sin is death".
But, then comes a great big "BUT". "...But the gift of God is eternal life."
We deserve to die, BUT instead God offers us the precious gift of life.

All too often we try to think that we must earn our way back to God. We imagine that somehow it is what we do - as well as the type of person we are - that will earn us our 'deserved' place in heaven. But at the very start of this road journey we learnt that all of us fall short. There is simply nothing we could ever do to bridge the gulf between ourselves and God. No amount of good deeds - no amount of praying - no amount of service will ever qualify us.

Rather, our place in heaven is a gift. It's all about grace - amazing grace! The only thing left for us to do is to 'Give Way'. We are called to surrender and let Him do the work for us. And wonderfully, when Jesus died, all that work was done!

It's an amazing thing that God saves us not because of what we do, but because of what Jesus has alreday done.

There is one thing we are called to do though, and that is to accept this free unconditional gift. We are required to receive it , and as with any gift that involves us making a conscious decision.
